S.C. Education- Where's the improvement?

The latest reports reinforce the conclusion that our
education system is in crisis. Small Business should
be concerned.
With each passing report it becomes clearer that the
education system in our state is in a serious
downward spiral. The lifeblood of Small Business is
an educated workforce. I'm not talking about a
college education for all. But, is it too much to ask
that a high school education that actually means
something is the norm? Right now there is about a 50%
high school graduation rate. A significant portion of
those go on to college, leaving the vast majority of
available workers with less, sometimes much less,
than a high school education. As Small Business
owners we cannot micromanage the education system.
But, we do have a responsibility for the larger
picture. We need bold and dramatic action to change
the course of education in our state. Policies
espoused by the education establishment merely tinker
at the margin when radical surgery is needed. Where
are the leaders with a bold vision? Where is
leadership that can marshall support to counter the
power of the entrenched bureaucracy? When will we the
public stop buying the excuses for failure?
Remember- one definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.
